Title
Rice Mounds
Year
2009
Materials
Rice, underlighting, darkened space
Instruction
Form multiple mounds of rice across a flat surface in a loose sequence.
Illuminate the arrangement from below so that each mound emits a subdued glow within a darkened space.
Maintain the overall spacing, contour, and illumination so that the work remains as a continuous field of low elevations.
The work exists while this condition is sustained.
Note
The work does not depend on rapid transformation, but on the sustained presence of a granular landscape.
It exists as a maintained relation between accumulation, contour, and low light.
